Defining You Website Theme and Domain Name

Get a theme or topic for your website - as I wrote earlier, I will assume you have well define topic for your website contact and this section  will help you further in clarifying your content requirements. You can pick any topic and start writing the content. Even if your topic is very niche, its okay to write since you have the entire world to read your site and definitely there will be someone interested on what your site is all about. The more niche your site is, the better it will be since there will be less websites competition for the search engine ranking. If you know a topic that you want to write but do not have much idea, then use the internet and gather information about your topic. Once you have that, you could start writing your website content. Its okay to have only part of the content first when you start to write the site and publish the site, and you could place the rest of the content regularly as updates.

Choosing a domain name - a domain is a basically your website address. For example, www.toliveonline.com is address for this site. I chose toliveonline.com as my site name. You could choose any website name for your site as long it is not been taken by anyone yet. However, it is HIGHLY recommended that you choose a website name that has strong connection to your site content. For example if your site is about cooking herbs and it explains variety of herbs , then  a name such as www.cookingherbs.com will be a great domain name. The reasons why your domain name and website content need to be heavily related are because people who sees your domain name will probably could guess what your website content will be, and another much more important reason will be in helping search engine to index your website better. By having one or two of your content keywords as your website name, search engines will be able to index your site better. Search engine will take into consideration heavily the link between your domain name and content in determining the ranking of your site in search engine queries. Please visit Search Engine Optimization for further details about keywords.

Here are some tips in choosing a domain name:

I) Don't register domain names that are too long such as www.learnhowtowriteaebookveryfast.com and have too many syllables. According to the internet regulations, you can register names up to 63 characters long, but try not to do that unless you could not help it. You always want people to remember your site name easily and potentially comes back in the future.

ii) Use hyphens if your name is too long to make it easy for people to read it. For example, www.online-home-business.com is an example of a domain name that will be too long to put in one phrase, but with hyphens it is easier to read. On the other hand, the name www.onlinehomebusiness.com is harder to read.

iii) This is up to you to do but if you have some money and plans to go all out in your internet business, you could protect people from copying your site by registering multiple extension such as .net, .net, .org, etc. For example, www.learnhowtowriteaebook.com can be registered also as www.learnhowtowriteaebook.org or www.learnhowtowriteaebook.net or etc. You do not need to have a website on all these domain names but you could divert the sites to your original site the with .com when people come to all these other sites.

You do not have to build a site on all the domains that you have registered, but you can reserve the others to keep people (copycats) from registering them and copying your content.

iv) Now, if you are lucky you may even become a millionaire by just buying a domain name. The way is to buy a domain name way in advance and later selling it to people who really wants it. For example, someone bought the domain name www.sydney2000.com and when Sydney become the host of Olympic in year 2000, they were looking for a domain name. And guess what was the sort after name for the domain name of the game, they were looking for www.sydney2000.com. The management of the Sydney Olympic paid over Australian Dollar $1,000,000 to a guy who owns the domain name. Well what a lucky guy!!
