Trustworthiness and credibility
At an auction site of this kind, whether
buying or selling, you are dealing with individuals whom you have never
met before in your life and possibly will never meet ever , and probably never had any dealings with before, and probably never
heard of before. This help build your trustworthiness, the star labels
that eBay gives based on cumulative ratings are a makeshift form of
community-based brand. Feedback comments are indications of
trustworthiness, like word-of-mouth reputation from ebay community.
You need to build trust. A bidder will
look into your star label and from there your credibility will be judge.
When you sell an item in ebay, make sure you communicate adequately with
the winning bidder, give them proper information and ship the shipment
as fast as you can. The faster they get the item, the more satisfactory
they will be.
Once you done this, it will be not much
is you could ask them to rate you through the star labels system in
ebay. Honest bidders will be glad to help you if you had guided them and
delivered as promised.
Description of items - always try to
your best to explain with detail regarding the item that you are selling
during auction. If it is a new item, the possibility of defect is
lesser. However, when you are selling old collectables, explain further.
Tell the defects to the potential buyer, so that they do not feel
cheated once they received the goods.
Note: Having good star label will help
you to get many and better bids.
Relationships with buyers
Keep in mind that along with the
community-based reputation of feedback, you are also building direct
relationships with individuals. Since you will be contacting personally
with the buyer, there should be always a personal touch. Someone who buys one thing from you may
well be interested in bidding in other auctions of yours. In the
description, tell how you acquired the object. Be chatty and friendly as
well as accurate and informative. Be friends and don't make them feel
they are dealing with a robot. Then include friendly questions and
comments in your correspondence about payment and shipping. By so doing,
you can uncover what else they are looking for and why they collect what
they collect.
If you have many items that fall into
the same general category, over time you develop your own niche --
establishing a reputation in that sub-community at eBay and perfecting
your descriptions and email messages, based on what you've learned from
your previous auctions and related correspondence.
Credit cards
If you don't have a credit card, I
strongly recommend you to get one if you would like to go far with ebay.
Using a credit card, use Paypal to do the payment. Its easy and more
reliable.
Why credit card is good are:
- You are likely to get more bids
from people outside around the world for whom a credit card transaction is far
simpler than getting an international money order or a check made
out in dollars on a US bank (if you are in USA), and because the credit card company
handles the currency exchange. Whether they win or not, those bids
drive up the price.
- Credit card payments save you lots
of time and hassle. The payments go straight to your Paypal account
that could be transferred electronically to your personal bank account,
whereas a check or money order payment requires you to make and
record bank deposits by hand, which can be very time consuming if
you are selling large numbers of low cost items.
